What you should know when buying fleet cars?

What you should know when buying fleet cars?

In case you’re considering the purchase of a new car through fleet sales, here’s what you need to know:

• Quick and cost efficient dealing:

Purchase done through fleet sales can save one a whole lot of money in the first price as they are available at a price lower than the showroom price and the second advantage is that the deal happens faster. Unlike the regular car showroom sales guy who will go on to explain every feature of the car in an attempt to persuade the customer to buy one right away, at fleet sales, sellers wrap up the deal at cheaper prices quickly. So you save on time as well as money. All you have to do is have the model number of the car you wish to purchase, the color and the options available, on your mind to strike a deal and the get the most.

• Do a test drive:

You may not have the opportunity to try the car at the fleet sales, it is better to go for a test drive of the car you have on mind at an authorized dealership and confirm your interest in the cars being sold in the fleet sales. It’s still better to take a friend along for a drive and take their opinion on the car.

• List out the specifications:

Once you decide on the model no. of the car you wish to purchase, make a list of the specifications you wish to add to your basic car model. Specifications may include sun roof, upholstery, air conditioner, etc. remember you don’t have to disclose them right away to the fleet sales guy as the rates of these specifications can be negotiated for a better price later once the basic price is settled.

• Consider the method of financing the car:

In case you’re looking for a loan to finance the purchase of your new car, make a visit to the bank or credit union and become aware of the rates of interest charged for the loan. A rough estimation of the loan amount your likely to get will help you in negotiating the price of the car at the fleet sales.

• Look for fleet department:

Once you’re firm on the model no. of the car you wish to purchase, check if the fleet departments of authorized car dealers are open to public. This may be a bit tricky, as retail salespersons may pose to be fleet salesman to divert your purchase through their own department.

• Get in touch with fleet managers and salesmen:

For any queries you should get in contact with the fleet manager or the sales representative preferably on a weekday.

• Thorough inspection:

Ask the fleet sales guy to lead you to the car you wish to purchase and consider doing a thorough inspection of the car and always remember to test drive the car there even if you have test driven the car before elsewhere. This is essential because there is a possibility of variations in the manufacturing of certain cars and hence it is better to confirm that the car is in good shape.

• Take a call to purchase if all goes well:

Get the price of the fleet car and ask yourself if this is the best price your willing to pay. Usually the basic price of the car is not very negotiable as you would have already gone through the bidding process.

• Make the purchase:

Once you have confirmed the final price of the car, make the payment and close the deal. In case you were not able to make arrangement for financing the car, request the fleet manager to arrange for a source of finance. You may have to tip the fleet manager but it will save the trouble of running around looking for loans.
